How to Create Your First Blogger Post — Complete Beginner Guide

Your blog is set up. Your niche is chosen. Your domain is decided.

Now comes the moment most beginners dread and delay:

Writing the first post.

The blank editor stares back at you. You wonder if your writing is good enough, if the topic is right, if anyone will read it. Most beginners sit at this screen for days before publishing anything — or they give up entirely.

Here is the truth: your first post does not need to be perfect. It needs to exist. This guide shows you exactly how to write and publish your first Blogger post — step by step, with no steps skipped.

Before You Open the Editor — Choose Your First Topic

Your first post should be something you can write confidently and completely in one sitting. Not your most ambitious idea. Not the most competitive keyword. Something specific, focused, and genuinely useful to your target reader.

Good First Post Ideas:

  • Answer one specific question your audience asks frequently
  • Explain one concept in your niche from the beginning
  • Share a personal experience relevant to your niche
  • Create a simple how-to guide for one task
  • Write a beginner's overview of your niche topic

Avoid For Your First Post:

  • Extremely competitive keywords (you will not rank for them yet)
  • Topics that require weeks of research
  • "Welcome to my blog" introduction posts (no search traffic value)
  • Topics so broad they cannot be covered in one article

Opening the Blogger Post Editor

Log in to blogger.com → Click your blog → Click New Post in the left sidebar.

The post editor opens. You will see:

  • Title field — large field at the top
  • Body area — where you write your content
  • Toolbar — formatting options (bold, italic, headings, links, images)
  • Right sidebar — Labels, Permalink, Location, Search Description, Options

Step 1 — Write Your Post Title

Type your title in the large field at the top. Your title is the single most important part of your post for both readers and SEO.

What Makes a Good Blog Post Title?

A strong title does three things:

  1. Tells the reader exactly what the post is about
  2. Includes the main keyword naturally
  3. Makes the reader want to click and read

Title Formulas That Work:

  • How to [Do Something] — [Benefit or Qualifier]
Example: "How to Start a Blog on Blogger — Step by Step Guide for Beginners"
  • Best [Things] for [Audience] in [Year]
Example: "Best Free AI Tools for Bloggers in 2026"
  • [Number] [Things] to [Achieve Goal]

  • What Is [Topic] and How Does It Work?
Example: "What Is Google AdSense and How Does It Work?"

Step 2 — Write Your Introduction

Your introduction has one job: make the reader want to keep reading.

The most effective blog introductions follow this pattern:

  1. Relatable scenario — describe a situation your reader recognizes
  2. The problem — name what makes that situation frustrating or confusing
  3. The promise — tell them what this post will solve for them

Example introduction structure:

"You just created your Blogger account. You are looking at the empty dashboard. And you have no idea what to write first, how long it should be, or whether anyone will ever read it."

"[The problem] Most blogging guides skip over this part — the actual process of writing and publishing a post."

"[The promise] This guide walks you through every step — from opening the editor to hitting publish — with nothing left out."

Keep your introduction under 150 words. Readers decide within seconds whether to keep reading — get to the value quickly.

Step 3 — Structure Your Post With Headings

Never write your post as one long block of text. Readers scan before they read — headings tell them what each section covers and help them jump to what they need most.

Heading Hierarchy in Blogger:

  • H1 — Your post title (Blogger adds this automatically)
  • H2 — Main sections of your article
  • H3 — Sub-points within each H2 section

To add headings in Blogger: select your text → click the paragraph dropdown in the toolbar → choose Heading 2 or Heading 3.

Good Structure for a 1500-Word Beginner Post:

  • Introduction (100–150 words)
  • H2 Section 1 (200–250 words)
  • H2 Section 2 (200–250 words)
  • H2 Section 3 — with H3 sub-points (300–400 words)
  • H2 Section 4 (200–250 words)
  • Conclusion + Next steps (100–150 words)

Step 4 — Write the Body Content

Write each section under its heading. Keep paragraphs short — 3 to 4 lines maximum. Long paragraphs feel heavy and discourage reading, especially on mobile.

Formatting Tips for Better Readability:

  • Use bullet points and numbered lists for steps, tips, and comparisons
  • Bold the most important words or phrases in each section
  • Add one or two relevant images to break up long sections
  • Use simple, direct language — write like you speak
  • Avoid jargon unless your audience definitely knows the term

How Long Should Your First Post Be?

For beginners: 1000–1500 words is ideal. Long enough to be genuinely useful, short enough to complete without burning out. As you get more comfortable, aim for 1500–2500 words per article — longer posts generally rank better on Google.

Step 5 — Add Images

Every Blogger post should have at least one image — ideally a featured image at the top of the article.

How to Add Images in Blogger:

  1. Click in your post where you want the image
  2. Click the image icon in the toolbar
  3. Upload from your computer or paste an image URL
  4. Click the image after inserting → click the properties icon → add alt text

Image Best Practices:

  • Use your own photos or royalty-free images from Unsplash, Pexels, or Pixabay
  • Always add alt text — describe what the image shows using your keywords naturally
  • Keep image file size under 200KB for faster loading
  • Use tools like TinyPNG to compress images before uploading

Step 6 — Set Your Post Labels

Labels are Blogger's category system. On the right sidebar, find the Labels field and type your labels separated by commas.

Assign 1–2 labels per post:

  • One main cluster label: "Blogger Basics"
  • One secondary label: "Beginner Guide"

Labels create category pages automatically at /search/label/your-label — these become your blog's navigation categories.

Step 7 — Customize Your Permalink (URL)

By default, Blogger creates a URL from your full post title. This is often too long and may include stop words that add no SEO value.

In the right sidebar, find Permalink → select Custom Permalink → type your preferred URL.

Good Permalink Rules:

  • Include your main keyword
  • Keep it under 60 characters
  • Use hyphens between words (not underscores)
  • Remove words like "a", "the", "and", "how", "to" unless needed for clarity

Example:
Title: "How to Create Your First Blogger Post for Beginners in 2026"
Good permalink: /create-first-blogger-post.html
Bad permalink: /how-to-create-your-first-blogger-post-for-beginners-in-2026.html

Step 8 — Write Your Search Description (Meta Description)

In the right sidebar, find Search Description. This is your post's meta description — the text that appears under your title in Google search results.

Meta Description Formula:

  • Include your main keyword naturally
  • Describe what the reader will get from the post
  • Keep it between 120–155 characters
  • Make it compelling — this is your ad copy in search results

Example:
"Learn how to create your first Blogger post step by step — from opening the editor to publishing. Includes SEO tips, formatting guide, and mistakes to avoid."

Step 9 — Add Internal Links

Internal links connect your posts to each other. They help readers discover more of your content and help Google understand how your posts relate to each other.

For your first post, add 2–3 internal links to:

  • Your pillar/master guide page
  • Related articles on your blog
  • Your About page

How to add a link in Blogger: select text → click the link icon in toolbar → paste the URL.

Step 10 — Publish Your Post

When everything is ready, click the orange Publish button in the top right corner.

Before you click, run through this quick checklist:

  • ✅ Title includes main keyword
  • ✅ Introduction is engaging and clear
  • ✅ Post uses H2 and H3 headings
  • ✅ At least one image with alt text
  • ✅ Labels assigned (1–2 labels)
  • ✅ Custom permalink set
  • ✅ Search description written
  • ✅ Internal links added
  • ✅ Proofread once

Click Publish. Your post is now live on the internet.
